Using the metro
We used public transport and enjoyed planning the route to South Shields via Pelaw and counting the number of stops.

We looked at the building, statues and weather vane and discussed the history, art and icons that appear around the town hall.
The Mayor, Councillor Fay Cunningham, showed us around the building and was so passionate about the history of South Tyneside.
We sat in the council benches and learned about democracy and the importance of freedom that we have.
The Mayor showed us the various conference rooms and explained that they host weddings and numerous events throughout the year. Last week Sheridan Smith was in the building filming scenes from her latest drama series and this weekend The Magic Circle were using this room for an event.
Mayor Cunningham explained to us that the crest was designed using a wide range of historical and iconic images. It represents Jarrow and South Shields. The book is The Boldon Book (also known as the Boldon Buke), the same as our school logo on our jumpers. The survey was similar to that of the Domesday Book in the previous century, covering the bishop's lands in what was to become County Durham and other parts of the north east of England.
We were lucky to attend the town hall on a bright day - the light poured in through the stained glass. The mayor told the school council about the images in the windows and some of the key statues around the marble staircase.
