Y3 Art and Design Learning Journey

In Year 3, pupils embark on an exciting art journey that begins with Growing Artists, where they develop their drawing skills through observational work and mark-making. They travel back in time to explore Prehistoric Art, discovering how early humans expressed themselves through cave paintings and natural materials. Through Fabric of Nature, children experiment with texture, pattern, and printmaking inspired by the natural world. The year concludes with 3D Sculpture, where pupils bring their creativity to life by designing and constructing three-dimensional artworks.

Y4 Art and Design Learning Journey

In Year 4, pupils deepen their artistic understanding through a diverse and engaging curriculum. They begin by exploring Ancient Egyptian Scrolls, learning about storytelling through symbolic imagery and hieroglyphs. In Painting and Mixed Media: Light and Dark, they experiment with contrast, mood, and layering techniques. Through Drawing: Exploring Tone, Texture and Proportion, children refine their observational skills and develop more detailed, expressive work. In Sculpture and 3D: Mega Materials, they investigate form and structure using a variety of materials. The year concludes with Craft and Design: Fabric of Nature, where pupils combine natural inspiration with creative textile techniques.

Y5 Art and Design Learning Journey

In Year 5, pupils continue to build their artistic skills through imaginative and thought-provoking projects. They begin with Painting and Mixed Media: Portraits, exploring identity, expression, and a range of painting techniques. In Sculpture and 3D: Interactive Installation, they design and create large-scale collaborative artworks that engage the viewer. Craft and Design: Architecture allows children to investigate the built environment, developing their understanding of structure, space, and design. Finally, in Drawing: Depth, Emotion and Movement, pupils experiment with line, tone, and composition to create dynamic and expressive pieces.

Y6 Art and Design Learning Journey

In Year 6, pupils bring together their artistic skills and creativity in a series of expressive and reflective projects. They begin with Painting and Mixed Media: Author Study, creating artwork inspired by the themes and styles of chosen authors. In Drawing: Expressing Ideas, they use sketching to communicate mood, narrative, and personal response. Through Sculpture, pupils explore form and meaning, developing more complex 3D creations. Their journey concludes with Photography, where they learn to capture and manipulate images, combining technical skill with artistic vision.
